When it comes down to it logos are much more than just the sum of their parts. A logos true power lies in how it is used and in what context. It is for this reason that many designers create branding or identity guides to accompany their logo. Here are a few resources focused on brand and identity design.
Logo Orange Design Group is a design and branding agency based out of Paris, France. Here are a few great branding and identity resources they offer on their website:
- The Big Page of Branding & Corporate Identity Resources
- Design a Custom Corporate Identity
- The Corporate Identity Manual
I always enjoy a clever concept and this is a great one. Kirk Littell and George Potts of Kolbrener have compiled a list of major branding terms using the idea of a “Periodic Table”.
Who doesn’t like free? Logo designer David Airey has graciously given away a free chapter from his book Logo Design Love which covers all areas of logo and brand design and implementation.
And finally here are a few examples of brand and identity manuals used by various companies and institutions.
- Cambridge University Identity Guidelines
- Honeywell Brand Guidelines
- Heineken International Brand & Company Visual Identity
- TNT Brand Web

Great post Jeremy. These resources will come in handy as I’m in the process of creating my own logo design. Nice work on your “jb” logo symbol, simple and stylish
